VEGAPULS radar sensors are considered “state of the art” in the market. With more than 250,000 installed and operating, these instruments are the most sold radar-based level sensors in the world. Through the extension of the temperature range to 450 °C and the higher chemical resistance of the antennas, this new generation of radar sensors has a much wider application spectrum. Additional housing versions, an optimised connection concept and simplified operation thanks to clear adjustment parameters make setup and commissioning even easier.

As a result of the noticeably more powerful electronics, the new radar sensors are even better adapted to the requirements of the many different applications and industries.

New, ultrafast microprocessors provide more power for signal analysis and enable complex processing algorithms. Modern electronic components allow a never-before realised signal evaluation and a better differentiation between product level and vessel installations. Due to the considerably faster signal processing, the sensors are able to follow quick level changes. This accommodates the recent market trend of implementing smaller vessels with shorter filling and emptying cycles.

In the development process, special importance was given to ensuring complete compatibility between existing and new instrument adjustment. Everything fits together: new sensors and existing adjustment software and vice versa, new radar electronics and existing housings and antenna systems.

The pulse radar measuring principle

The antenna system of the radar sensor sends out extremely short microwave pulses that are reflected by the product surface and received back by the antenna system. The time elapsing from emission to reception of the microwave pulses is proportional to the level in the container. A special time-stretching procedure makes a certain and exact measurement of the extremely short intervals possible.

The VEGAPULS radar sensors operate in the K and C-band frequency range. The compact, high-frequency K-band sensors are particularly suitable for applications in which very high precision is required. They are universally applicable, from storage containers to complex reactors. Low-frequency C-band sensors today are used mainly for niche applications. Due to their low emitting frequency, they can penetrate thick foam and heavy condensate deposits somewhat better.

Radar sensors - fit for all process conditions

The optimized VEGAPULS radar sensors are now making radar level measurement technology still more versatile and reliable for every application.

Applications: Solids Learn More

  • Level measurement of bulk solids in compact silos
  • Continuous level monitoring in the rock crusher
  • Silo monitoring outdoors
  • Monitoring the optimal filling in the lime kiln

APPLICATIONS: Liquids Learn More

  • Level measurement in storage bins for acids and lyes
  • Flow-rate measurement in open channels
  • Tank content measurement with liquids
  • Tank systems in the refinery
  • Level measurement in reaction vessels for production of plastics or resins
  • Level measurement with VEGAPULS 63 in the stirring and batching tank for the production of fruit yoghurt
  • Continuous level measurement of chlorine
  • Level measurement with VEGAPULS 63 in storage containers for chemicals and auxiliary materials

Liquid applications

In most applications, the radar sensors are directly mounted on vessel sockets.
In open vessels, mounting is carried out very simply with the help of a mounting strap. The mounting strap is fastened to the vessel wall or vessel ceiling.
Hygienic process fittings are available for applications with stringent requirements on the cleanability of sensors. Optimal cleaning is guaranteed through front-flush sensor mounting

Radar sensors can also be fitted on standpipes or bypass tubes. Suitable antenna sizes are available for all the many different tube versions.

Bulk solids applications

In bulk solids applications, the antenna system of the radar sensors is aligned with the product surface or the container centre. Mounting fixtures for optimal orientation are available for the different radar sensors.

In open silos, the radar sensors can be very simply aligned to the product surface via a mounting strap.

With HART® Smart compatibility, versions of THE VEGAPULS are available to handle a broad range of applications.

VEGAPULS 61

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 63 is optimized for measuring aggressive liquids and for application in production processes under hygienic conditions.

Product Description

VEGAPULS 65

Level measurement of liquids despite foam

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 65 is everywhere in use where liquid levels in small to medium-sized containers have to be measured but small process fittings (1½ inch) are required.

Product Description

VEGAPULS 66

Level measurement of liquids - even with strongly agitated media

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 66 is the radar instrument of choice when the level of a turbulent liquid has to be measured: it delivers reliable, exact measuring results in spite of foam, buildup or condensate.

Product Description

VEGAPULS 67

Level measurement of bulk solids

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 67 is used everywhere where the levels of widely different bulk solids have to be continuously monitored in measuring ranges up to 15 m.

Product Description

VEGAPULS 68SR

Level measurement for bulk solids silos up to 30 m high

VEGAPULS SR 68 is a radar sensor for continuous measurement of bulk solids even under difficult process conditions. It is optimized for a measuring range up to 30 m and offers the user all the advantages of radar technology at an interesting price.

Product Description

VEGAPULS 68

Level measurement of bulk solids

Bulk solids, which vary widely in their density, form and features, confront the measuring instruments in industrial production processes with widely different challenges: powders often generate huge clouds of dust, while coarse, heavy bulk solids cause tremors and noise when being filled into a container from a great height.
