LEAK DETECTION
REFERENCES

Leak detection (sealing failures) in piping, pressure vessels, valves, pumps, compressors, ventilation systems and even vehicles can now be detected and evaluated using the amazing HiTECH SONAPHONE.

The amazing SONAPHONE with its Penetrating Pulse Technology detects the ultrasonic waves generated from leakage points or excess mechanical wear.

Applications:

Pneumatic, steam, gas, & vacuum equipment

Boilers, pipes, valves, and runners

Bearing defects, damage and abrasion wear

Condensate conductors

Electrical insulation damage

Compressed-air and vacuum plants

Automotive pneumatic brakes and devices

Vehicle cab and door seal integrity

Power plant steam lines

Benefits:

Energy cost reduction

Low-cost preventive maintenance

Reliable early warning detection

Simple device ~ Easy to use

Detectable ultrasound waves are produced in many different ways, for example:

·      At leakage points inside of pressure, vapor and vacuum devices

·      By trace condensation

·      At leaking valves, bolts and taps of main systems

·      Errors of rolling-contact bearing

·      By cavitations of pumps and compressors

·      By flashovers and Corona discharges on electric devices

Even leaks in applications where no active ultrasonic waves are naturally produced can be detected.

This is accomplished by placing a SONAPHONE T, ultrasound transmitter, inside the system (vessel) to be checked.

The SONAPHONE can then be used to detect any ultrasonic waves emanating from any leakage points.

Applications of this type include: vehicles, tanks, containers, and ventilation systems.

Operating principle

In any process involving; fluid or gas flow, or pressurized vessels, wherever a leakage occurs ultrasound waves are generated as a result of the internal friction. With the unique sensor of the SONAPHONE the leak location can be accurately detected sensing these high-frequency signals.  In the SONAPHONE, they are then transformed into acoustic and electronic signals which provide information regarding the location and relative size of the leak.

To address non-pressurized systems a small ultrasound transmitter, SONAPHONE T, is used. Its ultrasound signals pass through any leaks which can then be monitored by the SONPAHONE as explained above.

Bearing defects create higher friction. This can also be identified using the solid-borne sensor with the SONAPHONE.
